Joan C. Politte entered into rest on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Tranquility Wellstar Hospice. Her parents, Joseph H. Flieg and Ida K. Flieg, and her sister, L. Mary Biediger, preceded her in death. A native Missourian, she was born in Crystal City, Missouri on October 27, 1933. She moved to Marietta, Georgia with her husband and two children in July, 1961 and has lived in the area since that time. During that time, she was a talented ceramic teacher and taught at Lockheed as well as a local ceramic shop. She was a member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and volunteered as a greeter. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary. Joan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don Politte of Acworth, her two daughters, Christy (and Jim) Shell of Kennesaw and Cyndi (and Steve) Woodruff of Acworth, four grandsons, Sean Fennelly (and Corinne), Joey Shell, Blaine Woodruff, and Grayson Woodruff and one granddaughter, Julie Shell, and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Ethan Fennelly. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 87 Lacy Street, Marietta. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10:00am. Monsignor John Walsh will be officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in Marist Hall at the church. West Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
