Jere Eugene McGinnis, of Dunwoody, passed away on August 8, 2014. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2 pm in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Marietta. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the funeral home.
He was born in Rome, Georgia to Ralph Edward McGinnis and Nona Adeline Ford. After a short time residing in Charleston, South Carolina, Jere was raised in Rome. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably from 1959 to 1963 as a Bomb Navigation Systems Mechanic, attaining the rank of Airman Second Class. After his military service, he attended Shorter College in Rome where he met his wife Shirley Medley McGinnis. They wed in 1964, were married for 47 years and are now reunited in heaven.
Jere was very mechanically inclined and could build or repair anything. He worked as a technical representative for Xerox Corporation for much of his career, which also included a few independent business ventures as well. Jere loved to go to the beach at the Gulf of Mexico and fish whenever he got the chance. He loved animals, especially his little dogs, and feeding the wildlife at his homes in Dunwoody and Ellijay. He had a great sense of humor and retained it even through the last days of his illness.
Jere was a wonderful husband to Shirley and acted as her caregiver the last few years of her life. He exemplified his vows to Shirley in sickness and in health. Jere was an amazing father to his daughter Jackie, and a loving grandfather to his two grandchildren, Aaron and Claire. He was a kind and loyal friend to many. Jere will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his daughter, Jackie Williams and husband Michael of Kennesaw and grandchildren, Aaron and Claire Williams. Also surviving is his mother, Nona McMichen of Rome, Georgia.
