With Profound sadness we announce the passing of Jeanine, our loving and devoted Mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on December 7, 2020. She left us while sleeping. She was in her 89th year. Born in Bordeaux, France to Emile and Renee Horvat on January 3, 1931. She would witness incredible changes to her country with the invasion by Hitler's Germany at the age of 9. Being a gifted student, she was advised by her Professors that she be placed in a higher grade level and received honors throughout her education. She was employed with the French Government and worked with the United States Military where she met and fell in love with Henry Lyle Tibbs who served in the U.S. Army.
They married in Angouleme, France and would settle in Dalton, Georgia and then the remainder of their lives in Smyrna, Georgia. She became a US citizen in 1960.
She was the beloved Mother of Terry (Rich) and David (Rhonda) and Grandmother to Jennifer (Travis) and Todd and proud Great-Grandmother to Mason and Owen. She was Aunt to many nieces and nephews in the USA and France.
Predeceased by her husband of 51 years at the time of his death and sister Suzy Dufour and her daughter in law, Rhonda Gann.
Jeanine lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker. She loved to cook; she was skilled with knitting needles. She played the piano and her garden was always bright with beautiful flowers and plants she cultivated. She loved animals especially her French poodle, FIFI, of 19 years.. She was an avid reader and well versed in literature.
Most of all she loved her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Jeanine's ashes were interred alongside her husband at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA. Close family members attended. The remainder of her ashes will be scattered with her Parents in France, her beloved Country she left so long ago.
Grieve not…nor speak of me with tears…but laugh and talk of me…as though I were beside you. I loved you so…Twas Heaven here with you.
