Early Monday morning, April 29, 2024, Laura Jean Tatum McBride went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born in Cumming, Georgia on January 4, 1934 and grew up in Dawsonville with her 4 sisters and 1 brother.
She graduated from Cumming High School in 1950 and after graduation went to work in the offices at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company.
She met her husband Roy through a friend and they became pen pals while he was in the service and they got married on September 4, 1954.
Jean and Roy were charter members of St. Luke UMC in Mableton for over 40 years and later joined McEachern Memorial UMC in 2004 where they were members of the Searchlights Sunday School Class. Jean enjoyed being part of the Besse McElreath Circle and attending Bible Studies. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and being with her family and friends.
Jean is survived by her son Jeff McBride (Sheila), daughter Laurie Newman (Randy), grandchildren Travis Newman, Adam Newman (Emme), Elana Newman, Elizabeth Crowder Farr (Chris), two great grandchildren, Malcolm Crowder (Destiny), Madison Farr and many nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bartlett McBride, father Roscoe Ira Tatum, mother Stella Matilda Peek Tatum, sister Edna Roebuck (Joe), sister Verdelle Herring (Jimmie), sister LaVerne Hansard (Garnell), brother Ira Tatum (Vivian), sister Mildred Coleman (Wayne), grandchildren Richard Crowder and Kelly Crowder Davis (Toby).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 3, 2024 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
