JANICE LAYNE JAUREGUI

February 21, 1947 — December 24, 2020

She took her first earthly breath as Janice Layne Shoaf born to I. N. "Bud" and Jeanette Michael Shoaf (both decreased) on February 21,1947 in Lexington, North Carolina. Her only brother Chon Shoaf joined the family fourteen months later. As a child Janice made a life changing decision to become a believer in Jesus Christ and follow Him for the remainder of her life. She finished schooling there at West Davidson High School before leaving to attend the Massey School of Interior Design in Atlanta. Janice met her future husband, John A. Jauregui Jr. in Atlanta on a blind date on December 5, 1965. After receiving her Associate of Art degree, she returned to Lexington to work at Belk's as a Window Display Coordinator. Janice and John were engaged in Atlanta on March 15,1968, and she became Janice Layne Jauregui when they were married on August 3, 1968 at Reeds Baptist Church in Lexington. Immediately moving out to Van Nuys, California she began a career as Showroom Designer for Levitz Furniture eventually being placed on their West Coast New Store Opening Team. Janice and John soon became active and dedicated members of First Baptist Church of Van Nuys. Janice was blessed with motherhood through the adoption of daughters Jacqueline Nicole (1976) and Jessica Noel (1979), both girls having been born in Colombia, South America. God created Janice to be a caring, compassionate, loving and Godly mother for the remainder of her life. She laid down her Levitz position in 1976 to devote more of her time to their girls and her husband. Shortly after, Janice established her own small boutique business (My Stuff) in 1982. She became known locally for her Christmas Boutique conducted annually in their home. Janice, John and their teenage girls moved to Marietta, Georgia due to John's job reassignment in 1991, and became active at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Janice decided to begin a new career at Michael's Art and Crafts as their Floral Designer, heading up their Marietta Department for 21 years (retiring in 2015). Over the next few years (1991 to 2006) Janice would help create a marriage ministry at JFBC which include a Marriage Preparation Weekend and a Young Married's class teaching and demonstrating what a Christ-centered wife and mother looks like. Fast forward a few more years and Janice and John became wonderful grandparents to Isabella, Isaac, Lanie Grace and John Henry (Jacqui married Jeff Jackson) and Jonah and Sam (Jessica married Jason Ferrell). To her grandchildren, Janice was the one who loves them unconditionally, mends for them all that is torn, encourages them to do better than they believe they can, and gives them the best hugs ever! According to all of her grandkids, Janice is the very best "cooker" in the world. Janice and John moved churches to Elizabeth Baptist Church Marietta in 2014, where John became the Family Minister (2014 to 2018) and she became a pastor's wife. This was a role that she was Divinely meant to fulfill. Her gifts of hospitality and teaching (both in word and example) were accentuated through this time. Her studying of God's Word and guidance of God's Spirit would lead her to teach a women's Bible Study faithfully over the last years of her life. Janice saw Jesus and breathed her first heavenly breath on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020. Her husband, daughters with their husbands and children, brother Chon with his wife Beverly and children Regan and JoAnna (with their families) remain to faithfully live their lives missing the presence of their precious Janice but rejoicing in the knowledge that she is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ forever. Janice's family knows firmly that their personal reunions with her await. A private family interment service will be held at Reeds Baptist Church on Sunday, January 3, 2021. There will be no in person Celebration Service; however a Celebration Service media presentation will be made available for online viewing within the next few weeks. Please check this website later for instructions to access the presentation. In lieu of flowers you can show your love for Janice by donating to The Janice Layne Jauregui Faith, Hope and Love Scholarship through the Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina (bchfamily.org) - a fund to benefit at-risk youth by gifting scholarships to further / continue education of all types.
