Janice Brown Cottongim (Harper), age 85, passed away peacefully Friday, February 10, 2023, with her children by her side. Born and raised in South Georgia, she graduated from Perry High School and married her late husband Marvin E. Brown, who predeceased her in 1998. Marvin and Janice had two wonderful children, Jan Burns and Jeff Brown. After his passing, Janice married her husband John Cottongim in 2008. She was a charter member of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church and a member of the Burnt Hickory Garden Club. Janice loved long walks with friends, traveling, and spending time with those she loved. Even though Janice worked for the Department of Defense, her favorite full-time job was being a mom and grandmother. Family was her pride and joy.
Janice was predeceased by her parents, E.C. Harper and Evelyn Stewart Harper; her first husband, Marvin E. Brown; and her brother-in-law J.C. Pope.
Janice is survived by her husband John Cottongim of Marietta, Georgia; her children, Jan Brown Burns (Jamie) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Jeff Brown (Ashley) of Holly Springs, Georgia; grandchildren: Nathan Burns, MaryBeth Cox (Ryan), Harper Brown, and Keller Brown; a brother, Charles Harper (Ann); a sister, Sandra Pope (the late J.C.); nieces and nephews, cousins, and a plethora of friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 10:30 am until 12 noon, with the funeral service immediately following at noon at West Cobb Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 14, at Seville Cemetery in Seville, Georgia.
