Jane Elizabeth Merritt

Jane Elizabeth Merritt, age 77, of Powder Springs, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1878 Powder Springs Road, Marietta, with Rev. Tommy Young officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 1pm until the service. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park.

A life-long resident of Cobb County, Mrs. Merritt retired from Shamrock Knitting Mills where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church in Dallas, GA and was a singer with the Casteel Family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Junior Merritt; daughter, Mary Elaine Conley; brother, Leo Ezelle “Sonny” Casteel, Jr. and parents, Leo and Blanche Casteel.

Survivors include her children, Larry Towns of Powder Springs; Kathy Newton of Auburn, GA and Sherrie McDaniel of Maine; brother, Leon (Shirley) Casteel of Douglasville; sister-in-law, Janet Casteel; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 5pm-9pm.
