James Albert Walston peacefully passed away on February 16, 2021, at the age of 87 in Smyrna, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Walston, his 3 step daughters, Robin, April and Shara Scopa, his sister Tekla Mae Madaras, and his brother Dennis Robert Walston. He is pre-deceased by his father, Oliver Perrie Walston, his mother Grace Catherine Walston and his brothers Gene Henry Walston and Richard Oliver Walston.
Jim was born on March 7, 1933 in New Rochester, Ohio. He began his travels through education at a 2 room schoolhouse. From there, he completed his secondary education at Pemberville High School. Then he went on to The Ohio State University where he graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
Throughout his youth, his passion was flying model airplanes. Jim, and his father, would travel to meets where Jim would compete in the free flight competition. Then Jim and his dad would spend time together looking for his planes. Later in life, Jim developed tracking system to find lost model planes. This earned a place in the Model Airplane Hall of Fame.
After attending ROTC at The Ohio State University, Jim was commissioned as a second lieutenant in The USAF. He served for 4 years of active duty, eventually he finished as a Captain. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
There was a small family service held at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory. Jim will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on March 10th, 2021.
