James Marion Speer

James Marion Speer, age 95, of Smyrna, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Interment will follow at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta.

A native of Fulton County, Mr. Speer moved to Smyrna in 1961. He was a veteran of the United States Army Infantry, having served as 1st lieutenant during WWII and the Korean Era. Afterwards, he joined the Georgia National Guard. He worked in mortgage and finance, retiring from Anchor Bank. He was also a longtime member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Marietta. Preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Nancy Juanita Speer, his parents, Samuel and Bessie Lou Speer, his daughter, Nancy Marion Speer, and his siblings, Marvin Speer, Agnes Abrams, and Marie Rape.

Survivors include: 5 Children, Linda (Don) Hoffman, Smyrna, GA, Jimmy (Elaine) Speer, Temple, GA, Mark Speer, Powder Springs, GA, Laurie Speer Henson, Smyrna, GA and Kenny Speer, Cornelia, GA; Grandchildren, Debbie Baird, Johnny (Laura) Logan, David Logan, Michael Paul (Jennifer) Logan, Stephen (Jessica) Speer, Jason (Melanie) Speer, Korey (Kayla) Speer, Amber (Kelly) Gantt, James (Christy) Edmondson, Nicholas (Stephanie) Edmondson, Joeseph Edmondson, Todd Speer, Nancy Speer, Ashley (Matt) Pankey, Kenny (Shea) Speer, Lee (Genil) Speer, Breanna Bohannon; 43 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild, and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
