James Hubert Blackwell, age 81, of Smyrna, GA, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born in Smyrna, GA on May 29, 1937, the son of Paul Mackelroy Blackwell and Lillian Truman Davis Blackwell. James attended McEachern High School in Powder Springs and served in the Army National Guard from 1954-1962. He was a devoted member of Trinity Fellowship Church in Marietta, GA. He lived the majority of his life in Powder Springs, but moved to Benson Manor in Smyrna, where he was a beloved resident for 13 years.
James was best known for his avid angler skills and outdoor sportsmanship. He enjoyed playing bingo, reading the Bible and attending church activities.
He is survived by his ex wife, Juanita Blackwell Burkhalter; sons, James Lewis Blackwell, Tony Ray Blackwell, Thomas Benjamin Blackwell, Steven John Blackwell, David Eric Blackwell and daughter, Betty Elaine Blackwell Moore; sister, Peggy Joyce Blackwell Anderson; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. James is predeceased his parents, Paul and Lillian Blackwell; brother, Lewis Thomas Blackwell; sister, Shelby Jean Blackwell Dolder and son, Phillip Mark Blackwell.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Kennesaw Memorial Park: 1306 Whitlock Ave NW, Marietta, GA 30064 with Pastor Richard Hemphill officiating.
