Howard Thomas “Tom” McRae, 74, of Marietta passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014. Services will be held at 11am Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Foster and Mr. Robert Barber officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Tom was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and also served as a Lion’s Club Member. He loved aviation and in his earlier years dreamed of acquiring a pilot’s license. He was an avid reader and read just about anything he could get his hands on. He collected National Geographic and read them cover to cover. He was quite the handy man and could repair anything. Tom and Trish started collecting antiques during their retirement years and Tom’s passion was clocks. He would buy and restore them and prided himself on getting them back in mint condition. Tom was also a master of crosswords and competed with himself on the amount of time to complete even the most difficult puzzles. He was a fount of knowledge and could recall facts on pretty much any subject, but loved wildlife, war history, photography, astronomy, and had a keen ability to recount the family’s history. Tom was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Tricia Ann McRae for forty six years before her passing in 2007. He is survived by his children, Melissa Webb and her husband Mark of Acworth, Shellie Sherrod of Douglasville and Robert McRae; Grandchildren, Megan Wells Gantt and her husband, Justin, Chelsea Webb, Cody Wells, Mackenzie Webb, Christian McRae and Jordan McRae.
