BLESSED Ever-Day!!! Mr. Harry D. McFarland, age 68, of Marietta, GA passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Diagnosed with inoperable bone cancer in January, he played golf on non-chemo days and was in full remission until late September, when cancer returned in different spots. The combination of cancer, heart attack, a major stroke, and pneumonia proved too much to overcome. Funeral Services will be held 12pm Thursday, November 19th at Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville. He will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service.
Born in Austell, GA, Mr. McFarland lived most of his life in the Cobb/Paulding County area. He retired from Bellsouth after 25 years. He then served as President and International Staff Representative for the Communication Workers of America (CWA). Mr. McFarland was named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Harry was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed playing golf. He also loved his wife & family, his Church and GT Football/Basketball. Most of all he loved CHRIST and shared that with as many as possible.
He was preceded in death by his son, Guy Seth McFarland. Survivors: Spouse: Janice McFarland (weeks shy of 50 years) 2 Sons: Mitch (Becky) McFarland, Lynchburg, VA, Thom C. McFarland, Murrayville, GA and 2 Grandchildren: Abigail and Dain McFarland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church Building Fund, 7147 Hiram Acworth Hwy, Dallas, GA 30157.
