Gloria Brown Rush, age 80, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Bruce Hamrick officiating.
Born in Martin, Tennessee, Mrs. Rush lived in Cobb County for most of her life. She retired after a career with the Cobb County Board of Education, having worked at Nash and Osborne Middle Schools. Throughout her life, she was very active and involved with her church, most recently being Milford Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for 60 years, was the tour director for the XYZ Senior Group, and served as a choir director for the Golden Tones, sang with One Accord and sang soprano for the church choir, and led the Hand Bell group. She loved gardening, music, traveling and was a sports enthusiast. She also loved to celebrate Christmas and had over 100 Santas in her collection.
Survivors include: Husband of 60 years, Melvin Wesley Rush; 4 Children, Rhett Rush, Marietta, GA, Rhonda (Phil) Hardy, San Clemente, CA, Roxane Rush, Canton, GA and Ryan (Pam) Rush, Cumming, GA; 3 Grandchildren, Cory Rush, Chelsey Rush and Emily Rush; 1 Great Granddaughter, Hailey Rush.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria Rush's memory to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Online guest book at
