Glenda Elizabeth Chambless, age 74, crossed her earthly finish line on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at an Assured Senior Living memory care home in Castle Rock, Colorado. She was born, along with her twin sister Brenda, on December 12, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in and resided in Smyrna. Glenda was a graduate of Campbell High School in Smyrna and received her bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University.
Glenda loved nature and animals, especially her dogs through the years. She once helped rescue her beloved dog, Cricket, from a copperhead’s bite. Vegetable gardening was also a favorite pastime along with cooking. Glenda once shared that she believed her job in heaven “will be to cook good meals for many people”. Perhaps Glenda’s greatest service to others came in enabling her mother, Avis, to stay in her home until her homegoing in 2021, and shopping for and cooking for her sister after that.
Glenda was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ with a lifelong trust in Him as her Savior and Master. She gave her life to Jesus at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Smyrna, where her father, Rev. York Chambless, was pastor. Glenda, along with her sister, taught children’s Sunday School for many years at Trinity Fellowship in Austell where she was a faithful member for over 50 years. Just days before her death, Glenda stated her confidence that “Christ is always with me”.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Avis and York Chambless. She is survived by her brother, David; her sister in law, Lynn; and by her twin and closest friend, Brenda. It will be hard to imagine one twin without the other in this life. The graveside service, led by Pastor Mark Conner of Trinity Fellowship, will be at Georgia Memorial Cemetery on Monday, November 11, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
