Dr. George Robert Tzetzo, aged 86 of Marietta, GA, formerly of Buffalo, NY, and Fort Myers Beach, FL, passed away, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness on October 19, 2023.
Born in Buffalo to Angelo and Marguerita (Kondili) of Korce, Albania, he was the first of his siblings to be born in the United States. His father and uncles started Tzetzo Bros., a wholesale candy and tobacco business. He grew up working in the family store where he developed his strong work ethic and love of candy.
George graduated Bennett High School in 1954, then with a Bachelors from the University of Buffalo in 1958, and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Buffalo in 1962.
He was a well-respected and much loved OB/GYN for over 40 years. He practiced at Millard Fillmore, Kenmore Mercy, and was a Chief of Staff at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. He sat on the Admissions Board for the University of Buffalo Medical School.
An avid Buffalo booster and sports fan until his death, he also loved history, music, and was a car enthusiast.
George was preceded in death by his sister, Donica Tzetzo, and his brother, Constantine Tzetzo.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Welling). Loving father and father-in-law to Anne (Daniel) Roach, Kristin Tzetzo, Lisa Tzetzo, and James (Susan) Tzetzo. Doting Baba to Ian, Alec (Kate), Grant (Tara), and Stuart Roach, Freddie and Maddie Tzetzo, and great grandfather to Addison Roach. Survived by his loving sister Barbara Gosch of Eau Claire, WI, and sister-in-law Joan Tripi of Orchard Park, along with many much loved nieces and nephews. Surrogate father to Jussi Tuovinen (Leena) of Helsinki, Finland and Kathleen Connors.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Atlanta Alzheimer's Association or Doctors Without Borders.
Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY on December 2, 2023 at 11 am. Reception to follow, please contact the family for details.
