George T. McWilliams, age 88, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away April 30, 2021. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, GA with Rev. Bobby Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery in Mableton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elsie McWilliams and sons Tommy and James McWilliams.
Mr. McWilliams was a native and lifelong resident of Cobb County, GA. He graduated from Robert L. Osborne High School, retired from Simmons Mattress Company after 42 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. George was the youngest of seven children and a loving Husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He was known to them as "Papa Choochoo". He was the kindest, most humble and gentle man, always touching the hearts of those he met. His greatest legacy was his love for the Lord. He loved the Lord with all his heart and wanted to make sure everyone else did. He shared the love of Jesus wherever he went. He worked as a minister in local nursing homes for over 40 years conducting weekly services and special requests by patients and their families.
Survivors include: wife of 24 years: Christine R. McWilliams of Powder Springs, GA; daughter: Rene' (Todd) Thompson of Powder Springs, GA; daughter-in-law: Kathy McWilliams of Dallas, GA; seven grandchildren: Richie (Michelle) Haney, Jr., Russell (Kayla) Haney, Taylor (Luther) Hall, Amanda (Travis) Smith, Ashley (Chris) Ellis, Jacob (Grace) Thompson; thirteen great-grandchildren, twelve nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
