Rev. Fulton Lawrence "Larry" Hemphill

Rev. Fulton Lawrence "Larry" Hemphill, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 8th, 2021 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital of COVID-19 Pneumonia.

Larry was born on September 10, 1939 in Charlotte, NC to Fulton D. W. Hemphill and Geneva L. Hemphill. He was a graduate of Chamblee High School in Chamblee. GA. After serving in the United States Army, he returned to marry the love of his life, Diane Moss Hemphill. Together they served the Lord in ministry for over 45 years at 16 different churches across the southeast, and later as chaplains to Grace Senior Living in Douglasville, GA. He received degrees from the Church of God School of Theology in Cleveland, TN, and Beulah Heights Bible College in Atlanta. He is recognized for his distinguished service as pastor of the following Churches of God: Dawsonville (GA), Mount Hermas (GA), Dunwoody (GA), Ogeechee Farms (GA), Shannon (GA), South Sarasota (FL), Ringgold (GA), Cornelius (NC), Lacoochee (FL), Trenton (GA), North Melbourne (FL), Hazelwood (NC), Reidsville (NC), Bryson City (NC), Cashiers (NC), Bethel (Seagrove, NC). He also served as District Overseer, District Youth Director, and member of the State Ministerial Examining Board for the Church of God. He is remembered by all as a loving and constant cheerleader for his kids and grandkids, an affectionate man who lived a life devoted to his family and church. He and Diane generously give us a legacy of devotion and love.

Larry is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Diane Moss Hemphill (Powder Springs, GA); his sons Steven (Adriana) of Sarasota, FL, Christopher (Crystal) of Cartersville, GA, and Scott (Whitney) of Bethel Park, PA. He is also survived by the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Mateo, Lily, Locke, and Levi. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara. He is survived by four siblings: Jane Wanamaker (Jay); Thomas (Sarah); Richard (Nancy); and Mary Grace Forrester, all of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law, Rachel Moss of Marietta, GA. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles Moss.

Visitation with the family will be held on June 22, 2021 from 5-7pm at West Cobb Funeral Home on Macland Rd. in Marietta, GA. His body will lie in state on June 23, 2021 from 1-2pm at Trinity Fellowship Church in Marietta, GA, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at 2pm. Interment will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta, GA immediately following services. The family requests that masks be worn at all times at visitation and funeral services.

In addition to flowers, the family fervently requests that everyone get their COVID-19 vaccination to stop the spread of this horrible disease.
