“Against my sky there stood an oak tree, grand and high,
and when it fell it left a blank space in the sky.
But I consoled myself to find beneath, alive,
a hundred tiny oaks where that strong friend once thrived.
And acorns that it cast, produced from fertile ground,
for half a century, oaks, for half a mile around.
Always, oak trees that great, leave blank spots in the sky,
and it’s not wrong to miss them and it’s not wrong to cry.
But I rejoice in this: Although my tall tree broke,
this countryside is blessed and springing up with oaks.”
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, April 22, 2105 from 10am until the time of service.
