Mr. Frank Eugene Marmon died peacefully on Friday, March 9th in Atlanta, GA at the age of 86.
Frank is survived by his wife, Beverly Shope Marmon, his three children and their spouses, Karen Webb and her husband Tony; Randy Marmon and his wife Carol; Darryl Marmon and his wife Lisa; and the great joy of his life, grandson Alex Marmon. He came from a large family and was the youngest of 8 siblings. He is preceded in death by his sisters Lillian King, Mary Hall, Stella Harlos, Ruby Alford, Evelyn Palmer, and brothers Richard Marmon and Edward Marmon, all from the Atlanta area.
Frank was born on February 2, 1932 in Atlanta, GA to Anton Marmon and Angie DeLong. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1954 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and also received his Masters of Business Administration from Georgia State in 1974. Immediately after Graduating from Georgia Tech, Frank served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant stationed in Germany. After moving back to the Atlanta area, Frank began working for Lockheed as a Mechanical Engineer and spent over 40 years with the company. At Lockheed, he distinguished himself with 3 patented inventions while working on the C5A, C130 and C141B. He finished his career at Lockheed heading and delivering the P3 Orion program for South Korea just prior to his retirement.
He married Beverly Shope in 1957 after serving 2 years in the Army, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. When you saw them in public, from their first day of meeting through their last day of marriage, they were always holding hands.
Frank was an accomplished engineer and thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially fishing and baseball. He played catcher for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Baseball Teams in 1953 and 1954. He was always a very generous man giving of his time, talent and treasure to any individuals in need, whether he personally knew them or not, spending time with the sick, visiting them in the hospital or their homes, bringing food and comfort wherever he could. Frank lived to serve those around him and especially his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active and dedicated Deacon of several Baptist churches for over 50 years and was recently honored by Macland Baptist Church in December of 2017 with the title Deacon Emeritus for his many years of faithful service.
