Dr. E. Eugene Williams, 88, of Austell, GA died May 2, 2011 of congestive heart and renal failure.
Dr. Williams, born Feb. 25, 1923 in Corning, N.Y., has lived in GA for the past19 years. He had an illustrious career as a WWII air force pilot and POW, minister, scholar, college chaplain, university and seminary professor, church and educational administrator, business entrepreneur, industry and mission executive, psychologist, and organizational consultant both in the United States and abroad.
Dr. Williams was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pennsylvania State University, and held M.A. and Ph.D degrees in communication and psychology from Michigan State University. Dr. Williams also did post-graduate study at Magdalen College in Oxford.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Ruth E. Williams of Austell, GA; his son, Roger E. Williams of Mt. Hermon, CA; his daughter, Virginia R. Payne of Evergreen, CO; four granddaughters; 3 great grandsons and 3 sisters. He is preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be held at Powder Springs Baptist Church on Thursday at 11:00 AM. He will lie in state from 10:00-11:00AM. Visitation will be at West Cobb Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 PM and at 6:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mount Hermon Christian Camps, in memory of E. Eugene Williams, P.O. Box 413, 37 Conference Drive, Mount Hermon, CA 95041.
