Erik Lucas Demmers, a man with a very big heart, moved on to his next adventure on April 27, 2023 at the age of 43 years old. Erik was born on May 21, 1979 in Clear Lake City Texas and moved with his parents to Atlanta Georgia during the spring of the following year. He grew up in the city, and attended Mary Lin Elementary, Inman Middle School, Grady and Druid Hills High schools and Georgia State University. From an early age, Erik loved nature and the outdoors. Many of his fondest memories were from his times at the family farm in Newborn, Georgia, a place he truly loved. Erik hiked and camped in various locations throughout the U.S and had a particular fondness for canoe trips in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in South Georgia.
For those who knew him, Erik was one of the brightest lights in the universe. He was a truly kind and generous man who took care of anyone who was fortunate enough to be in his orbit. He was a talented artist and photographer who loved nature and being outdoors as often as possible. Erik loved traveling and dreamed of one day seeing the stars from the southern hemisphere. He was a comic book nerd, music lover, inveterate list maker; amateur chef and astronomer, and an armchair meteorologist. He was brilliant, stubborn, told terrible jokes and had a beautiful soul.
Erik is survived by his mother, Nancy Williams Demmers; his father and stepmother, Jim and Cheri Demmers; his fiancée, Ashley Burgess, daughters Emily and Eva; aunts Margaret Williams McDonald, Linda Williams Woodworth (Karl "Woody"), Uncle Charles (Lynne Dale) Williams, and Nancy Demmers Grimm (Richard); cousins Andi Woodworth (Anjie), niece and nephews Dani, Cameron, and Charles Woodworth of Atlanta; Michael Woodworth (Kate), niece and nephew Hannah and Felix Woodworth of Maine; Ben Woodworth of Atlanta and Newborn, GA; and Bridgette and Brian Grimm of Florida.
Above all, Erik's great talent was bringing joy to the lives of everyone around him - just by being Erik. He was, in a word, extraordinary.
A family celebration of life is planned for a later date at the Williams family farm in Newborn Georgia. Those wishing to honor his memory with a donation may choose their favorite charity or Habitat for Humanity.
