Emma Lee Stovall

March 10, 1914 — September 5, 2015

Emma Lee Moore Stovall, age 101, passed away on September 5 in Marietta, Georgia. Services will be 2pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Guy officiating. Graveside services will be held 2pm Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Georgia.

Mrs. Stovall was born March 10, 1914 near Swainsboro, Georgia, one of nine children, to Mattie Flanders Moore and Mitchell G. Moore. At an early age she and her family moved to Douglas, Georgia where she spent most of her life. She was married to James Edwin Stovall for over fifty years before he died in 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Edwina Barlow (Jim) of Marietta, Georgia and Jamie Sue House (Ben) of Wilsonville, Alabama, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Elder of Douglas, Georgia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Emma Lee was a member of the First Methodist Church in Douglas, Georgia for many years, where she was active in the Woman’s Missionary Society and taught children and youth in Sunday School. She later joined the First Christian Church in Carrollton, Georgia.

She was known for her sense of humor and style even in her last years. She usually had a funny story or humorous anecdote for everyone who came to visit her, and she was always dressed as if she were going to a party or church service.

She celebrated her one hundredth birthday in 2014 with a big party at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was also honored with an article in the Marietta Daily Journal and TV coverage by Fox 5 news.

Her family especially wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and her caregivers from Dayspring for their loving, devoted care during her last years.
