Mr. Elbert Doyle Cook, age 83, of Acworth, GA passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 while surrounded by his family. Elbert was born August 10, 1933 to Georgia and Carlie Cook, in Marietta, GA. At the age of 18, Elbert began working at Coca-Cola Bottling Company and worked his way up the corporate ladder over his 37 years of employment. Upon retirement in 1988, Elbert enjoyed a year of riding his motorcycle and enjoying all the things he loved, before rejoining the work force part-time with Double R Vending in Norcross, GA. During his time there, he started his own company, Cook Vending Company. As always he worked at full speed and loved interacting with his customers daily, until he sold his company in 2008, at the age of 75. Elbert married the late Geneal Martin Cook in September of 1951 and they had one daughter, Elizabeth. They were together until Geneal’s death in 1975. Elbert met Maylene Richardson Allen later in life and they married in February, 1990. Upon this union of families, Elbert received another daughter, Stacey and a son, Joe into his family. Elbert had an unwavering faith in God. He was a member of Macland Baptist Church where he enjoyed his long-time friend Gene Hice teaching the Adult Sunday School Class. He spoke of his friends from his Sunday School Class often. Through the years, Elbert enjoyed a variety of hobbies and adventures. From go-cart racing in his early years, showing horses, camping with family and friends, bowling, riding motorcycles, or just being outdoors on his tractor, Elbert enjoyed life to the fullest. He was very active and loved being on the go. He loved people and never met a stranger. Elbert’s love for people and friends was only surpassed by his love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful Pop and Granddaddy, who was always the grandkids biggest fan and supporter at football, basketball, lacrosse, baseball and golf games, as well as dance recitals and school functions. His love of family was obvious to everyone he met, because he loved to brag on his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, H.B. Cook. He is survived by his wife, Maylene Richardson Cook; two daughters and sons in law, Elizabeth and Larry Phillippe, Fairmount, GA, and Stacey and Chris Johnson, Woodstock, GA; one son, Joe Allen, Kennesaw, GA; seven grandchildren, Reeves Johnson, Hayes Johnson, Whitney Phillippe, Brooks Johnson, Sydney Phillippe, Ardyn Grace Johnson and David Jacob (DJ) Allen; brother in law and spouse, Eddie and Elaine Richardson; nieces and nephews; cousins; and many loving friends. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm on Sunday, November 20th at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA. He will lie in state from 1pm until 2pm on Monday, November 21st at Macland Baptist Church, 3732 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA, with the funeral service to be held at 2pm with Dr. Richard Walker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta, GA. Donations may be made to the Macland Baptist Church Building Fund. Online guest book @
