Douglas MacArthur Dobson

Douglas MacArthur "Mac" Dobson, 75, of Acworth, Georgia, died November 2, 2020, after many years of end-stage renal failure and various complications thereof.

Born February 4, 1945, in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, he was the youngest son of George Washington Dobson and Caroline Gertrude (Early) Dobson.

He attended Cool Springs/East Rutherford High School in Forest City, North Carolina. Mac continued his education at Washington and Lee University, graduating in 1967; he joined the Air Force after college, as the Vietnam War was escalating. The Air Force allowed him the opportunity to travel and explore many beautiful parts of the world, including New Mexico, Germany, Thailand, Cambodia, and Okinawa, Japan. Mac served for 13 years, ending his career in 1981 with the rank of Captain.

He enjoyed traveling, photography, listening to good music loudly, American history and politics, and NASCAR. Mac delighted in his grandchildren, Kate and Dean.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elisabeth Allee "Elsa" (Gruen) Dobson; daughters, Caroline Elisabeth "Beth" Dobson and Jennie Barbara Sharp; son-in-law, David Spencer Sharp; grandchildren, Kate and Dean Sharp; nephew, retired naval Captain Ernest W. "Chip" Dobson Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida; several great-nieces and great-nephews; the Allee/Gruen clan and numerous family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest W. Dobson, Sr. and William R. "Bob" Dobson, Sr.; nephews, Andrew Dobson and William R. "Robbie" Dobson, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
