Dorothy D. Shelton, age 84, of Marietta passed away March 1, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 4, in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Marietta, with Pastor Kenneth Green officiating. Internment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park.
Dorothy was born in Marietta and lived here her entire life. She was a 1947 graduate of Marietta High School. She loved to read her Bible and to travel with her late husband, C.W. Shelton, all over the western United States. Her passion was canning and freezing vegetables that she grew in her garden and sharing them with family and friends. “She loved to play in the dirt.” She loved her family and put them above herself. She would cook amazing meals and enjoyed having the family together.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, C.W. Shelton, and by her son, Joseph T. Shelton, and is survived by her children: Ann Shelton Purdy and husband, Kyle, of Pikeville, TN, and Bill Shelton and wife, Tina, of Shannon, GA, daughter-in-law, Terry Peace Shelton of Riverdale; siblings: Betty Ellis, Kemp Dickerson, Cecil Dickerson; 5 grandchildren: Stacy Haynes, Casey Cognito, Beverly Jo Talbot, Andrew Jacob Shelton, Kayla Shelton Wiggins; 8 great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Sarah and Ella Haynes, Daniel Strickland, Arianna, Gianna, and Giovanna Cognito, and Emma Gracelynn Wiggins and many loving nieces and nephews.
