Dorothy Mae Galloway Knox of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully at Tranquility Kennesaw Mountain Hospice surrounded by her family on October 24, 2020. She was 96 years old. She was born in Atlanta, lived in Birmingham, AL and Piedmont, AL as a child. She attended school there and in her middle school years was kept out of school to pick cotton. For her high school years, she moved back to the Atlanta area, lived with her aunt and uncle in Marietta, GA and attended R. L. Osborne School where four generations of the family have attended school. That included her mother, children, and some of her grandchildren. She graduated in 1942. After high school, she worked for Pepperell Manufacturing Company, Lindale, GA contributing to the war effort during WWII. She was predeceased by Robert Andrew Knox from Marietta, GA who she married in 1945. She, primarily, was a homemaker and volunteer until becoming employed with Richway, Smyrna, GA in 1968. She retired in 1985. Her favorite activities were sewing, gardening, bowling, doll making, church and most of all being with her family of which there are many – surviving children are daughters, Cheryl Sauls (Jerry) of Waleska, GA, Betty Lohman (Kelly)of Talking Rock, GA, Andrea Knox (Vernon) of Powder Springs, GA, and son, David Knox (Tammy) of Spring Hill, TN. Surviving are 10 – grandchildren, 19 – great-grandchildren, and 1 – great-great grandchild. She was a longtime active member of Olive Springs Baptist Church, Marietta, GA where she participated in the Merry Makers, the Sweet Spirit Singers Choir, Tape Ministry for Shut-Ins, keeping the Nursery and Vacation Bible School. She loved making dolls and collecting dolls and was a member of the Atlanta Doll Makers Club. She bowled on a League many years at Azalea Lanes. Also, she was a member of the Fair Oaks Community Club, Marietta, GA and the Good Sam Club for touring the USA. A favorite thing for her was to travel, especially, with her friends and family. She visited Africa, Australia/New Zealand, England, Hawaii, and Scotland. Her last trip was to Ireland in 2016 with one of her daughters, two granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters. Her last three years were spent at Sterling Estates of West Cobb Assisted Living. She was active in exercise classes, art classes, Bingo and Bible Study. Visitation is at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA on Tuesday, October 27 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at Macland Baptist Church, 3732 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA on Wednesday, October 28 at 2pm.
