Donald Edwin McCowen

Donald Edwin "Uncle Don" McCowen, age 85, of Marietta, Georgia passed away January 11, 2023. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in Powder Springs, GA. with Rev. Matt Petty officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard L. and Maude McCown, grandson Jacob Dennis, siblings, Peggy Freeman, Butch McCown and Kenneth McCown.

Donald was a native of Limestone County, AL and lived most of his life in Marietta, GA. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was currently a member of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church and was a former member and preschool Sunday School teacher at Roswell Street Baptist Church, also a former Sunday School Director at Mt. Calvary. He retired from the United States Postal Service in the early 1990's. He sang in the Gospel Messengers Quartet and was a member of the Samuel L. Lawrence Masonic Lodge. Donald loved spending time with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include: wife of 62 years: Wanda McCowen of Marietta, GA; five children: Renee (Tony) Dennis, Mike (Sonya) LeSesne, Keith (Julie) McCowen, Beth (Jeff) Wright and Kimberly (Matt) Reed; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister: Karen Norton; three brothers: Jerry McCown, Richard McCown and Paul McCown.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia. and Monday, January 16, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in Powder Springs, GA.
