Donald Wayne Hagemann

Donald Wayne Hagemann, 79 of Acworth passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, surrounded by his family. Formerly of Rockford, Ill., Don is survived by sons, Brad (Glenda) Hagemann of Simpsonville, S.C., and Brian (Kathy) Hagemann of Powder Springs, GA; granddaughter, Grace who attends the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS University of Alabama ROLL TIDE; grandson, David Hagemann, of Powder Springs, GA; sister, Lyda (Ray) Arnold of Overland Park, KS, and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dolores Marie Hagemann, in 2010. Don Hagemann was born in 1933 in Mt Morris, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1956, where he met the love of his life, Dolores Bosshart. They were married in 1957, and had 53 years of wedded bliss. Don served his country in the Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1965. He was a mechanical engineer who spent the majority of his career working on the Auxiliary Power Unit for the Space Shuttle program. He was lead engineer in creating the very first engine in space that operated without oxygen. Don received NASA’s highest award presented by an astronaut, The Silver Snoopy Award, presented to him by Astronaut Ellison Onizuka in 1985. Don and Lorie loved to travel the world together. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, loved his Jack Daniel’s whiskey Manhattans, and became a Tennessee Squire in 1991. Don was a wood craftsman, he loved Big Band music, and his favorite singer was Nat King Cole. In the last two years of his life, he read the entire bible cover to cover. Don had an amazing relationship with Christ, and volunteered his time and talents at Northstar Church. His soul was kind and gentle, and he was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He has been reunited with Lorie in heaven for eternity. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Northstar Church in Kennesaw, Ga.; senior pastor, Mike Linch will officiate.
