Daws “Peter” Howard Sims, age 68, of Marietta, GA , left his weary earthly body to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, July 14, 2012, after an eight-year valiant battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Born in Boyle, MS, Peter had lived in Georgia since 1996. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. Peter had also lived in Cleveland, MS and Nashville TN. While in Nashville, he was ordained an elder at The Lord’s Chapel. Peter was a member of West Cobb Church, Marietta. He deeply loved his family and his God. Even though this disease slowly destroyed the nerve cells that control walking, balance, vision, speech, and swallowing, Peter never wavered from his belief in a loving and good God. His life was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He leaves wonderful memories to his devoted, loving wife of 45 years, Dr. Margaret Church Sims; children, Daws Howard Sims, Jr. (Piper) of Marietta, GA and Karen Sims Hartley (Garrett) of Grenada, MS; sisters, Gloria Sims McNeer (Donnell) of Cleveland, MS and Janet Lusk Garrison (Ron) of Venice, FL; grandchildren, Reagan Elizabeth Sims, William Russell Hartley , and Thomas Hayes Hartley; uncle, Lonnie Sims of Cleveland, MS; aunt, Mary Sims Gibson of Hot Springs, AR; many cousins and nephews; and his devoted caregiver and friend Mrs. Kathleen James.
