It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Lyle Tibbs on June 7, 2023. David was surrounded by loved ones during his final moments. David was born in Dalton, Georgia to Henry Lyle and Jeanine A. Tibbs on June 2nd,1955. David graduated from R. L. Osborne High School in the class of 1973. He began a long and dedicated career with Georgia Power from October 1st, 1974 until he retired on March 1st, 2018. David married Rhonda K. Gann, February 5, 1983. David and Rhonda loved the outdoors, which lead them to pursue many wonderful adventures together. Their travels produced new friendships that added tremendous enrichment to their lives. David made friends with everyone, during his stay on this earth. He was clearly loved and admired by so many people from across America. David's love for his entire family and friends was unwavering.
David was a tremendously kind and generous friend to so many people from broad ranges of age, gender, ethnic background and professions. At a young age, David developed a deep love for animals. He was a caretaker to numerous animals and enjoyed quiet time with his beloved cats, Jack and Red Cat. An adventurous traveler and Americana historian, David and his wife, Rhonda, traveled the entire United States by Motorcycle; each year, for weeks at a time. He was an expert at historical firearms and maintained an extensive collection of all types of weaponry, to include Samurai Swords. David was an active Automotive and Motorcycle enthusiast, and owned both early and late model examples within his extensive collection. He drove his vehicles to car and motorcycle shows, and was an active member and racer at the Atlanta Motorsports Park. David was a Master Electrician and could build and construct literally anything, which he or any of his friends and family had in mind. David was very forward thinking in his approach to enjoying time with Rhonda. When the month long motorcycle trips became too exhausting and dangerous for David and Rhonda, they switched gears and purchased a large sport boat and a large house boat, to enjoy at Lake Allatoona. To make this new adventure even more fun; David who was also a skilled welder, built his own large trailer complete with commercial sized Smoker to provide friends and family with the very best barbeque selections anyone could imagine. All of his many interests were marked with his outgoing humor filled nature, which left you wanting more stories to be told.
