David Lorne Nixon was born July 27th, 1972, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Diana Lee Nixon. Always wanting to take on new and exciting adventures, David was a precocious child growing up, never taking no for an answer. As the only child and only boy in the family, David was the center of attention who stole the hearts of everyone he encountered. David accepted Christ at an early age and regularly attended Cameron Avenue Church of Christ with family. David attended Henry Ford High School in Detroit, Michigan where he made many life-long friendships and memories. David was an avid fan of sports growing up and enjoyed playing football at the park with his friends in the neighborhood. A loyal fan of his hometown football team the Detroit Lions, David never missed an opportunity to remind friends that he was from "Detroit" and that he supported his home team regardless of their wins or losses.
In 1996, David married his life partner and soul mate Monifa Nixon. Together, they would share many adventures within different cities, states, and countries, building a lifelong love and friendship that expanded into a family of five, including their three children. David cherished his wife and family and would tell anyone who would listen just how much he loved them. David and his family left Detroit, Michigan in 1999 and lived in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; Lawton, Oklahoma; and Bamberg Germany before settling to Powder Springs, Georgia in 2004. In Georgia, David completed additional training and became certified as a welder, working for McNeilus Trucking and 3M. As a dedicated husband and father, David continued to lead his family in Christianity as a member of the South Cobb Church of Christ.
Having an infectious smile that captivated everyone who met him, David had a gift for encouraging and impacting the lives of others. While he was not a stranger to difficult situations, he made it through each challenge with a smile on his face. Diagnosed with cancer in 2017, David underwent various treatments that put significant strains on his body, however he didn't give in or give up. Crediting his strength and perseverance to his faith in God, David continued to motivate others within the cancer community through his organization Positive Cancer and was the primary caregiver for his mother when she became ill and throughout the remainder of her life until her transition 2018. In 2020, David was honored by the Northside Cancer Foundation and the Atlanta Braves for being a cancer survivor. He was also honored by the Atlanta Falcons organization. Always prepared to keep everyone smiling - even through tough circumstances - David dressed up voluntarily in costumes and brought smiles to other patients at the Georgia Cancer Specialists Chemotherapy Clinic. He dynamically changed the way that people looked at cancer, not only for those treating for the disease but also for the families, caregivers, and medical teams working alongside the patients. He would often make videos and share them on social media so that strangers faced with similar challenges could also be a part of his positive recovery process. Everyone who met David developed a lasting friendship with him. He impacted the lives of others in a special way.
David's long battle ended on November 5, 2022, with his wife of 26 years by his side.
