David S Hitt

January 16, 1949 — July 14, 2021

David Stanley Hitt passed away on Wednesday, July 14th, 2021 at the age of 72 - most likely to avoid seeing the doctors again or having to fly out west to visit family who wouldn't stop insisting.
He leaves behind his wife Jean of 51 years, his son Brian, daughter in-law Becca, a farm still half-full of animals, many friends, and a five year old granddaughter Aubrey who acts a lot like him.
Known as Stanley growing up, he loved swimming and riding his bike all through the hills of Toccoa, GA. After just three years at North Georgia College, he graduated into the army as the youngest officer in his class. Now known as David, he met his wife in a two month whirlwind romance and somehow talked his way into getting posted in Hawaii for the next three years. David made captain at the age of 22, but decided to leave the army when his son was born (more likely due to no longer being stationed in Hawaii). After 18 years working at the Office of Personnel Management and another 15 as a director for The Graduate School, he decided to retire to small farm living in Lithia Springs, GA.
He was a friend to all animals but especially the numerous dogs and horses that lived with them over the years. He had many good times traveling, golfing, reading, going to ball games, and negotiating deals any chance he got. In the end, his favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch smoking fine (or not so fine) cigars while listening to his news stations on the radio or visiting with friends and neighbors who knew they could stop by at any time to go fishing in the pond or just to say hello.
He will be missed.
A small memorial will be held the afternoon of Saturday, July 24th at the family home.
