Marietta

David Alan Gallion, 62, passed away at his home in Marietta, GA, on January 12, 2025. Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, January 19, 2025 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, Georgia. Family will receive friends at 1:00 PM-2:00 PM, Sunday, January 19, 2025 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia. David is preceded in death by his parents, Eldon Gallion and Dolores Schenkenberger, stepfather John Schenkenberger, and brother, Robert Gallion. He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Lisa Faulkner Gallion, children, Timothy Gallion and Claire Odom (Alex), and siblings, Lorena Gallion (Bob), and Paul Gallion (Kelly).

David spent his entire career in the electronic payments industry including 27 years with Global Payments (formerly TSYS) as a programmer analyst. At work, he was a go-to person for his team in both design and troubleshooting. He had a gift for explaining concepts without making others feel ignorant and could quickly recall details of projects he had not touched for more than a decade. He was a kind friend, always ready to listen and encourage.

David demonstrated his love for God in his concern and care for others. He loved his church (North Metro Church in Marietta) and especially the small group that met at his home weekly. He loved his neighbors and friends and was always willing to help and to host, giving generously of his home and his time. He had a quick but gentle sense of humor, was a master of "dad jokes," and took every opportunity to make others laugh-often at his own expense.

David's heart beat for his family. He loved his parents and siblings and thoroughly enjoyed going home to Florida to spend time laughing, eating, reminiscing and enjoying the beach. He was a devoted husband. He provided and sacrificed so that Lisa could be home with Timothy and Claire when they were young. He was a loving and involved father, participating enthusiastically in their activities, including school trips, scouts, and band, serving as a chaperone, driver, assistant scoutmaster, props builder, and more. He set an example of love, service and integrity in everything, from washing dishes daily to taking on ever more ambitious home improvement projects, from painting to plumbing.

In everything he did, David put others first. He is greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and most acutely by his family.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
