David Grant Arwood, II, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Marietta, Georgia, on July 6, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca King Arwood, son, David G. Arwood III, daughter-in-law, Tori Arwood, and granddaughters, Bella, Rowan, and Ana; son Luke H. Arwood, II; sister, Carolyn Arwood Miller and niece, Jaclyn Alexandra Arwood Miller. He is predeceased by his parents, Luke and Aileen Arwood, sister Marian Arwood Brown, and nephew George Brown IV.
David was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1941. He grew up in Knoxville where he attended West High School. As a youngster, he was a junior tennis player, winning many tournaments and championships. As a young man, he was a member of Cherokee Country Club and The Men’s Cotillion. He was captain of the UT tennis team and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree from Harvard Business School. He also served bravely and honorably as an army lieutenant and combat veteran in the Vietnam War.
Later, he started a business, The Arwood Companies, in Atlanta where he was an auctioneer, business liquidator, and real estate broker. He successfully ran the business until his retirement. He was appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris to serve as chairman of The Georgia Auctioneer's Commission. As a senior, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a Christian and a very fun-loving man who will be greatly missed.
There will be a celebration of life remembrance for David on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Chestnut Hill Clubhouse in Acworth, GA. Please RSVP to dave@arwoodappraisal.com
Interment and a graveside service will be held at Berry Highland Memorial in Knoxville, Tn.
