Daphne Letten Clare-Ebanks nee Gordon, was born to Georgiana (Ms. G) Reynolds and Maurice Gordon on October 18, 1937 in Pedro Plains, St. Elizabeth. It is there that she grew up with her brothers, sisters and a host of relatives and friends. In her early adult years, she moved to Portland then to Kingston where she attended UHWI School of Nursing, obtaining a degree as a registered nurse. In January 1965, she met and married Victor Roy Clare who predeceased her in death. Their union produced three sons Douglas (Colleen), Peter (Diana) and Homer (Patricia). She became the proud grandma to Douglas, Dominic, Samantha, Naomi, Maria, Sophia and Alexander, and a great grandma to Amari Roy. She bonded with Niki (the daughter she never had).
She migrated to the USA in 1970, first to New Jersey, then to Long Island where she spent most of her working years with Episcopal Health Services. After retiring in 1996, she moved to Palm Coast Florida, then relocated to Marietta Georgia. Her time was spent between the US and Jamaica, and this was when she married an old friend Everett (Vill) Ebanks. Sadly, he also predeceased her in death. Daphne’s love for her family was evident in the fact that she spoke with her siblings on a daily basis. If you called and it went unanswered, you knew she was on the phone with a loved one. Because of her Christian faith, her conversations usually ended with “God Bless.” She formed great friendships over the years with batchmates, church members, coworkers, cousins and had God children who were a part of her life. Her love for God and her church was always important, hence her willingness to lend a helping hand and contribute financially to a lot of causes.
Daphne was feisty by nature, but was kind and considerate. Her family became her life and because of that Mom, Grandma, GG, Daph and Auntie will be dearly missed. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, Georgia.
