Daniel Thurmon Hatcher, Dan, age 73, died July 1, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 7, 2023 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 7, 1950. He was a 1968 graduate of South Cobb High School. He graduated from West Georgia College in 1971 with a Bachelor's in Biology and Chemistry, and from Georgia State University in 1974 with a Master's in Science Education. He taught middle grade science at Garrett Middle School from 1971-1975, and biology and human anatomy at Osborne High School from 1975-1976. He graduated from the Southern School of Pharmacy at Mercer University in 1979, and had a 37 year long career as a pharmacist in both chain and independent pharmacies. He retired from full-time pharmacy in 2016, and continued working part time until May 2023.
He was a member at Bethany United Methodist Church in Smyrna for 50 years. He was an active member of the Asbury Sunday School class and enjoyed teaching Sunday School to both youth and adults for 40+ years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nanci Brown Hatcher; daughter Emily and husband Chad Black of Dallas; daughter Elizabeth and husband Jared Barfield of Charlotte; grandchildren Daniel, Lani, and Dylan Black and Hannah, Mason, and Emma Barfield. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Fron and husband Bill of Leeds, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law Ann Marie and Douglas Rutledge of Canton; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Steve Lavoie of Waycross; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
"No matter where life takes you, FAITH takes you further." Dan always said "I have MS, but MS does not have me." He faced adversity and lived with physical limitations, but remained steadfast in his faith through it all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National MS Society, 950 East Paces Ferry Road, Suite 820, Atlanta, GA 30326.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
