Clayton L. Millwood, Sr., age 95, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 21, 2019 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Dr. William Camp officiating. Interment will follow on Saturday, June 22nd at 11am at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.
Born in Marietta on October 23, 1923 to Sarah Adeline Castleberry and Henry Jewell Millwood on East Dixie Avenue, he grew up at U.S. Highway 41 and Roswell Street until WWII. He met Jeanette Pauline Smith in 1940, who was from Copper Hill, TN, when her family moved to Marietta to run the Shell Service Station on Hwy 41, opposite from his farm house. They married in November of 1942, and their first son, Clayton, Jr., was born in 1943. He was discharged from the Navy in 1945, and was employed by U.S. Homes until he was hired at Lockheed in August of 1951. His son Barry was born in 1951. Mr. Millwood and his son Barry were baptized on May 25, 1959 at Roswell Street Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member, trustee, and member of the Senior's Sunday School Class. He gained a daughter-in-law in 1970. In 1983, Geoffrey Peter Millwood was his only grandson born. After he lost his first love Jeanette, then married his fourth grade sweetheart from Mt. Bethel Elementary, Nellie Moon, in 2004. She passed away in 2016. He remained a spry independent senior citizen until his recent illness.
Survivors include: 2 Sons, Clayton L. Millwood, Jr., Marietta, GA, and Barry W. Millwood and wife Shirley, Marietta, GA; Grandson, Geoff Millwood and fiancé Ashley Morton, Marietta, GA.
