Charles Luther Smith, D.D.S., Formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, born in Princeton, West Va., June 9, 1938, has experienced Jesus face to face. He passed away Oct. 23, 2020 with his devoted wife and family by his side, at home in Marietta, GA.
He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Luther, Sr. and Carrie Virginia (Joann) Lilly Smith and brother William L. Smith.
Dr. Smith, a retired Captain USNR, practiced dentistry for over thirty years in Norfolk, Va. He was the Virginia Tidewater Dental Association President-Elect 1984-1985, President 1986-1987. He graduated Cradock High School 1956, attended Concord College and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at the school of Dentistry Medical College of Virginia. He received graduate degrees from the University of Kentucky and University of Florida, teaching UF Gators before retiring. He served the Lord in foreign missions through dental care with leadership roles in the Christian church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Sheila White Smith, his high school sweetheart. His loving son Chandler L. Smith and daughter-in-law Angela, his adoring daughter Christine Smith Shevchenko and son-in-law Alex. Granddaughter Abigail (Abbi) Smith and Grandsons Samuel Smith, Xander Shevchenko and Luca Shevchenko. Two brothers, Jimmy R. Smith (Gina) and Robert S. Smith (Linda), Chesapeake, Va., sister-in-law Patricia White Matthews (Vincent); nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Caregiver June Baker brought loving kindness to his family.
A celebration of life, “Another Soldier Coming Home,” a graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Wednesday October 28,2020 at the Smith family resting place; Good Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery at 1633 Benefit Road, Chesapeake, Va.
