Carol Ann Ford, fondly known as “Carol Ann”, “Auntie”, “Lady”, “wife” and “Gan Gan”, was born March 5, 1944, to the late Carroll Anthony Perry and Gladys Oneida Weekes in Philadelphia, PA.
Carol Ann Ford (Perry) was lovingly named after her father, retired Detective Carroll Anthony Perry of the Atlantic City Police Department. She grew up attending Saint Augustine’s Episcopal Church and it was here where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Carol Ann graduated from Atlanta City High School in 1962. She was the oldest of seven children and as a teenager, she was very smart and excelled in school. After Carol Ann graduated from high school, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Reading Education from West Virginia State and her Master of Arts Degree in Reading, Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy. She worked as a teacher for over 10 years before moving up in the educational field. In Detroit, Michigan, Carol Ann became an authority on reading and was named one of the Authors and Directors for the federal program “No Child Left Behind”. She enjoyed her career and retired as a consultant to Detroit Public Schools.
While working in Detroit, MI, in the late ‘70s Carol Ann met a dashing gentleman named Beatres “B” Ford, Jr. and they got married. A few years later, Brian Christopher Ford was born to their union in 1981. Brian and her husband, “B”, became Carol Ann’s focus and she was totally and happily in love with them both. On December 24, 1996, “B” succumbed to sickness so Carol Ann’s family became a nucleus of 2. She and Brian became a united strong tower and spent the next 30 years enjoying life’s ups and downs. Carol Ann eventually migrated to Powder Springs, GA where she and her brother, Nathaniel, decided to buy a house and call it home. It was there on August 21, 2009, her grandson Brian Christopher Ford, Jr. was born and “Gan Gan” became her new name. Carol Ann loved her grandson so much and she spent every moment she could pouring into him and he is now in the top of his 8th grade class and Gan Gan could not be prouder.
Carol Ann was preceded in death by her three brothers Lamont Perry (Mayleen), Nathaniel Perry, Maurice Perry (Brenda); and two sisters Kathleen Strickland (Robert) and Crystal Echevarria (Edgardo). Those left to cherish her memory are: her son Brian Christopher Ford, Sr. of Powder Springs, GA; her grandson Brian Christopher Ford, Jr. (mother Ava) of Pleasantville, NJ; her brother, Bishop Randolph O. Perry (Roxanna) of Upper Marlboro, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
