Mr. Brian Ray Williamson, age 57, of Acworth, GA passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016. Memorial Services will be held 4pm Monday, November 7, 2016 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
A native of Bowdon, GA, Mr. Williamson moved to Cobb County in 1984. He retired from the State of Georgia as the Deputy Director of the Department of Community Affairs after 30 years of employment. Afterwards, he started his own consulting business, Public Private Collaboratives, LLC. He was a graduate of the University of West Georgia, a member of McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church, and enjoyed caving, kayaking, hiking and rock climbing.
Brian's contributions to the caving community were quite impressive. He was the editor for the GSS for a total of 20 years, including the last 11 years consecutively. He was a judge for the SERA Photo & Art Salon, and sat on panels for various caving awards. In addition to discovering, mapping and surveying many caves himself, he also mentored others on the tools of the trade for which he had so much passion.
