Brett Smith

April 9, 1989 — May 6, 2020

Brett Parks Smith, age 31 of Marietta, passed away unexpectedly, May 6, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Alvin Parks Smith, III (Buster) and Roseanne Barton Smith. He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Alvin Parks Smith, Jr and John Riley Barton, Jr, aunt Jan Smith Rainwater and uncles Mike Moore and Tommy Pittman.
Brett was a graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School where his participation in ROTC enhanced his patriotic love of country, the military and first responders. Brett, an excellent marksman, was a former Boy Scout and life member of the NRA who enjoyed hunting and fishing. While at KMHS, he developed a passion for cooking and obtained an associate degree in Culinary Arts from Atlanta Institute of Art where he became a certified chef and pastry chef. Brett worked for several years in the food industry but more recently worked for the Kroger Company at the Village Green store. He continued to use his culinary skills for private events. He had a passion for creating desserts which he loved to share with friends and co-workers. He loved life, loved sharing a good joke or an interesting bit of trivia. He loved the outdoors, whether it be the woods, mountains or the beach. His favorite vacations were trips to Tybee Island where he and his sister competed to see who could find the most shark teeth. Growing up, he spent many summers in Tennessee making memories with grandparents and cousins. These Tennessee visits resulted in his love for all things orange. He even proudly displayed a Tennessee license plate on his bright red pickup truck.
He is survived by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Joe McCain and favorite nephews Jaxson and Asher Parks; his grandmothers, Anne G Smith and Elizabeth R Barton, aunts Connie Pittman, Jo Ellen Moore, uncle and aunt, John and Amanda Barton, uncle Kip Smith, cousins Michelle, Garrett, Mitch, Kaleb, Brittney, Drew, Tiffany and Jessie and their children.
Brett was a gentle giant with a huge heart. He loved his family dearly and looked forward to spending time with his nephews. His goofy spirit, servant’s heart, infectious smile, his laughter and his desserts will be missed but we take comfort in knowing he has heard, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, the life of Brett Smith will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Salem Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, Kennesaw, GA or The Fisher House Foundation to benefit deserving military families.
