Billy Ross Garrett, Lieutenant Colonel Retired, age 80, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on December 3, 2018. He was surrounded by loving family. A graveside service is planned at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Friday, December 21 at 2:30 pm.
Reared in Athens, Georgia, he graduated from Athens High School. He also graduated from North Georgia College, where he met and married his wife of 59 years, Anne Clark Garrett.
Following college, Billy received his commission in the US Army. He served as an artillery officer in Vietnam; Korea; Germany; Lawton, Oklahoma; Warner Robins, Georgia; and El Paso, Texas. In civilian life, he operated three businesses and taught courses for a time at El Paso Community College.
He was a life-long outdoor sportsman. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. He was a collector of life stories that he enjoyed telling and a developer of friendships. He was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior organization.
Billy and Anne were members of the First Baptist Church of El Paso.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Garrett; his mother, Jewel Busha; stepmother, Mary Louise Garrett; brother, James Garrett; and step brother, Dr Golden Hinton of Athens, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Anne Clark Garrett of El Paso, Texas; son, Ross Garrett (Pat Garrett) of El Paso Texas; daughters Suzanne Garrett (Heath Biddlecome) of California and Mary Katherine Laliberte (Scott Laliberte) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and four grandchildren: Tyler Garrett, Billy Garrett, Sophia Laliberte, and Greer Biddlecome.
