Betty Louise Whitaker, born on March 8, 1934, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Betty was born in Griffin, Georgia, graduating from Griffin High School in 1951. After marrying and moving to Atlanta, Betty went to work for Sears, Roebuck and Company working in their Human Resources Department. During her 38 years working at Sears, she found great fulfillment as she planned, coordinated, and directed the administrative functions of the employees, leading each of them with grace and dedication. Betty was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church in Smyrna, Ga. where she served in many areas of the church. She had a great love for working in the GA program where she taught young girls how to grow in their relationship with the Lord.
Her proudest accomplishment in life was her family. A devoted wife of 69 years, Betty’s love of her family was where she found her greatest joy. Being a mother to her 4 boys, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother was her most treasured role in her life. She loved to cook, be with her family, and she found great joy at every opportunity she had to go fishing.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Opal Williams, as well as her brothers, Sherman Williams, Thomas Williams, and David Williams. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Donald Whitaker. She is survived by her husband Bobby Whitaker; son Randy (Vicky) Whitaker, Smyrna, GA; Harold (Alfie) Whitaker, Oakwood, GA.; Brent (Kelly) Whitaker, Powder Springs, GA; and Daughter-In-Law Cheryl Whitaker, Covington, GA. Her 8 grandchildren include Shannon Kemper, Travis Whitaker, Nathan Whitaker, Brett Whitaker, Britney Carlton, Bobby Whitaker, Wendy Loera, and Amanda Whitaker. She also has 17 great-grandchildren who she loved very much.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia. A memorial service honoring Betty’s life will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Mark Connor officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 pm at Sunny Side First Baptist Church Cemetery in Sunny Side, Georgia.
