Betty was born on Wednesday, July 22nd 1942 in Atlanta, GA. She was quite an athlete during her younger years and was voted as “Most Athletic” at Hoke Smith High School. She fell in love and married James H. Mitchell Jr. in 1960. They were married for 56 years until James’ death in 2016. Betty was a wonderful mother to her three daughters, Terrie, Tammy, and Tracy. In addition to raising them, taking them to all of their events, and being a devoted wife to her husband, she was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed spending time at the country club with her friends, playing cards, going to the beach, and having fun at casinos. Betty also enjoyed coaching softball and basketball while her daughters were young. Those closest to her know that her life revolved around her family and friends. She was so very proud of her three children and three grandchildren and will be missed so deeply by them all.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband James, daughter Tracy, and infant son Mark. She is survived by her two daughters Terrie Smith and Tammy Sibley; her three grandchildren, Matt Smith, Kayla Smith, and Mitchell Vines; her two sons-in-law Tim Smith and Clarence Sibley; her sister Mary Lee Britt; her brothers Gene Jackson and Wayne Page; and many other beloved family members. Betty has finally gone home where she will suffer no more.
