Betty Viola Mackey of Marietta, GA, passed away September 17, 2017 at the age of 80. Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Kennesaw Memorial Park with Rev. Walter Moon officiating.
Betty was born on July 23, 1937 in Opelika, Alabama. She graduated from Tuskegee High School in 1955, where she was chosen as Miss FHA. She also participated in 4-H club, the trampoline team, the Junior Class play, and Who’s Who. She was voted “Neatest” by her senior class. Betty was also awarded Miss Macon County title in a local pageant. Throughout her entire life, Betty served others. She lovingly supported her parents even with her paychecks prior to being married. She cared for her husband and raised their four boys in a loving home. She cared for her mother and siblings in their golden years, reached out to neighbors, and much more. She loved Jesus all throughout her life, and was faithful till He called her home. She attended Bethel Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA and also Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Marietta where she sang in the choir and was employed in the church office. She enjoyed spending time with her family, exchanging letters with her siblings and grandchildren, beautifying her home through decorating and yard work, and reading her Bible every night.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Clarence Avery Mackey and six siblings. Betty is survived by her four sons: Curtis, Cory, Chris and Chad; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; and “baby brother” George Hornsby. Survivors also include four beloved pets: Abby and Gracie (both Silver Yorkies), Kassi (a long-haired Chihuahua), and Toby (a pleasantly plump Guinea pig).
