Betty Mott Lancaster

Betty Mott Lancaster at the age of 93 peacefully passed from this earthly dwelling to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 4, 2025. Betty was born on August 29, 1931, in Tampa, Florida, as the third of seven sisters. Lakeland, Florida was called home where she married, gave birth to three sons, and built lifelong friendships. As a school bus driver, she smiled upon many a child climbing her bus steps, and then coordinated all of the bus routes for many years until retirement. 

In 2007 she made the leap of faith to move to Georgia where countless individuals were introduced to the joyful spirit and contagious laughter of “Queen Betty.” Whether it was holding court in her living room with young friends, or going on adventures with her peers, her zest for life bubbled up and washed over everyone in her presence. 

Any description of Betty without highlighting her powerful faith would be incomplete. Betty loved her Lord Jesus, reading her bible, listening to wonderful southern gospel songs, and digging into a deeper understanding of the Word. She was passionate about supporting Israel and supporting missionaries in various places around the world. If you asked her how she was her only response was “blessed and highly favored!” 

Betty is survived by Arlin Mitchell, her only remaining sister,her three sons, Bruce Hayes (Kim), Glen Hayes (Janice), and Wayne Hayes (Judy), her 5 grandchildren and her 6 great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews. She was loved wherever she lived, including her last 5 years at Serenity Empire in Marietta. Her smile and laughter will be truly missed!

A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory on January 13, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Prior to the service, there will be a time of visitation at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lakeland, FL with a memorial service on January 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
