Bennie Harvey Curtis

Bennie Harvey Curtis, age 72, of Marietta, Georgia passed away at home Monday, January 22, 2024. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and Saturday, February 17, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.  The memorial service will begin immediately following at 11:00 am.  Interment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at a later date.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bennie’s family travelled throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Iowa. In May 1969, he graduated from Iowa Falls High School and enlisted the very next day in the US Navy. He served with honor on the USS Lorain County (LST 1177) during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal.

A gifted carpenter, Bennie put his skills to work as a stagehand. He enjoyed traveling around the country and working on various shows and events in Nashville, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. 

Bennie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hiking and travelling with his beloved wife of 32 years Catherine. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian Pauline Parks and Elwin Lafayette Curtis, and his sister Jeanne. 

Bennie was very proud of his children Casandra, Nathan, Ryan, and Joseph. As a treasured grandfather, Bennie enjoyed visiting his daughter-in-law Rachel (Keith) Harmeyer and spending time with his cherished grandchildren Allison, Anna, Audrey, and Amy. 

Bennie is survived by his spouse Catherine Elizabeth Bell, and his siblings Lynn, Tom (Diane), Michael (Susan), Jack (Carolyn), Jan, and Kathlene. 

He will be mourned by numerous friends and family, especially his nephews James and Chris and nieces Kathleen and Victoria.
