Bennett Keith Watson, age 78, of Marietta, Georgia passed away May 30, 2024.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 am in the chapel. We are honored to have Rev. Lamar Rackley officiating.
Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 2:00 pm.
Mr. Watson was born on July 31, 1945 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Frank and Connie Watson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Anne W. O’Connor.
Mr. Watson graduated from Albany High School in 1962 at age 16. He attended Valdosta State College and later Georgia State College in Atlanta, Georgia. During his college years, he was employed with Southern Bell, which led to a decades long career.
Mr. Watson was a proud Army veteran, having served from 1966 to 1969. He was a talented musician. He had a passion for playing “finger style” guitar like his favorite musician, Chet Atkins. Mr. Watson was in several bands over the years, and enjoyed entertaining others through live music. He also had a love of building model airplanes, a hobby which he shared with his father from a young age. Mr. Watson competed for years in radio controlled aircraft contests, as was shown by the vast amount of trophies that adorned his workshop. Mr. Watson was also a skilled woodworker, and created countless pieces that his family will always cherish.
Known for his creativity, talent and playful sense of humor, Mr. Watson will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Watson, children Brian Watson (fiancée Aprylla Hall) and Shannon Paige, sister Carol (Fred) Miller, uncle Gerald (Betty) Smith, several nieces and nephews, many cousins and countless friends.
