On Sunday July 23rd 2023, the Lord called our beloved Barbara Anita Campbell home to her eternal rest, peacefully in her sleep at her home.
Born on April 9th, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to her parents, Carl and Geneva Tyler. Barbara attended Sarah J. Hale High School and after graduating she held a few positions before meeting the man who would eventually become her husband at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Mr. Leroy Campbell, from that union came two beautiful children and two amazing grandchildren.
While raising her children Barbara had the opportunity to attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in Education, while also working at the New York City Board of Education at PS 243 in Brooklyn, where she taught children from grades one through three and was a beloved member of the faculty for 35 years.
"Ms. Tyler" as she was affectionately known, was loved by her many students and teachers alike.
Barbara’s loves were her family, her dogs, cooking, baking and especially singing. She was a member of a choir that was formed by herself and four other gospel singing teachers from PS 243, they sang at many events across New York City for many years.
Barbara is remembered by her friends as a warm and loving person, always there to help when needed. A kind word at the ready for all. She gave her life to Christ at an early age when she was baptized at Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She had many close friends from childhood that lasted throughout adulthood.
In 2010, they chose to uproot their lives and move from Brooklyn, New York to Georgia to be with their daughter and grandson.
Barbara and Leroy were married for 65 years; she was preceded in passing by her husband Leroy Campbell, her parents Carl and Geneva Tyler. her sisters, Shirley V. Bohanan and her husband Arthur Bohanan, Eunice Tyler and brother Norman Anderson also her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Walter Waddell.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life, her son, Mr. Dale Campbell and daughter Ms. Darlene Campbell, two grandsons Mr. Kevin Smith and Mr. Jared Smith and also a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
