Amanda Elaine Sullivan Partee departed this life on Monday evening, at her home in Marietta, GA, following a brief illness. A devoted mother and grandmother, with a razor sharp wit, she will be missed daily by her husband of 55 years, Dale, her two children Stuart Partee (Heidi) of Marietta, and Mariclair Partee Carlsen (Mitchell) of Philadelphia, and her granddaughters Mary Ruby and Mae McLeod Partee Carlsen, who were her joy and delight.
Amanda was born in Jasper, FL, on her family farm. She left her studies at Florida State University in Gainesville to move to the Atlanta area in the early 1960s. She spent a 40 year career in management at Lockheed Martin, from which she retired in 2003. She was predeceased by her mother, Ruby (McLeod) Sullivan and father, Theo Sullivan, as well as her brother Wayne Sullivan. She is survived by three sisters, Margaret, Gloria, and Diane, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a constellation of friends around the country from all parts of her life.
Amanda loved digging in her gardens, long conversations with family and friends, and had a soft spot for strays both canine and human. She had a remarkable ability to see the potential in everyone she met, and to nurture them into realizing it themselves. All who loved her are comforted in their grief by the sure and certain knowledge that she is resting in the arms of her Savior and Lord. Amanda will be interred in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, in a private ceremony.
